Municipalities of Beryslav, Kalynivka, Tiahynka and Kherson of the Kherson Oblast received assistance from U-LEAD. They have joined the Support to the Decentralisation Reform in Ukraine / Ukraine Local Empowerment, Accountability and Development Programme (UDU/U-LEAD with Europe: Phase II), an international technical assistance project financed by the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic Germany through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Ukraine.
The following has been provided as part of the project:
A dump truck with a crane, tools and a generator to the Beryslav Town Council;
A compact loader and tools to the Tiahynka Village Council;
Tools to the Kalynivka Settlement Council;
A compact loader, tools and a generator to the Kherson Town Council.
According to Mykola Yatsenko, Head of the Tiahynka Military Administration, the provided loader and tools are already being used to mitigate the effects of the destruction caused by the war:
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for the assistance provided by the U-LEAD with Europe Programme. Everything was received on time. We’ve received the very things our municipality critically needs today. After all, we suffer from constant shelling, and every day we must work on the elimination of the effects of destruction and recovery measures.”
Ivanna Kuz, Adviser on Decentralisation and Local Self-Government of the Regional Office of U-LEAD with Europe in the Kherson Oblast, emphasises that today the budgets of the municipalities of the Kherson region are mainly supported by the allocations from the State Budget, which means they lack funds to purchase specialised equipment, generators and other essential items:
“That is why assistance in the form of the necessary equipment and tools is vital, as it contributes to the recovery of the daily life of the affected municipalities of the Kherson Oblast.”
