A meeting was held in Mykolaiv to discuss the challenges and needs of the de-occupied municipalities. The event brought together the team of the Regional Office of U-LEAD with Europe in the Kherson Oblast and the heads of the military administrations of the Kherson Oblast. They joined forces to analyse the current situation and find solutions for the further recovery of the oblast. Oksana Siliukova, Head of the Regional Office, told more about this.
At the meeting, the heads of military administrations spoke about their pain points. These include constant shelling from the temporarily occupied left bank of the Dnipro River, a significant population outflow resulting in a lack of workers and staffing problems, as well as the reluctance of some locals to evacuate from dangerous frontline areas.
Given the recent changes in the draft legislation, municipal officials take on a much larger role in facilitating draft measures.
At the meeting, experts from the Regional Office talked about the capabilities of the U-LEAD Programme and the support that U-LEAD can offer to municipalities, stressing the importance of coordinating joint efforts to ensure the recovery of the oblast.
“The close cooperation of municipalities with international partners that continue to support Ukraine through the war is key to successful reconstruction and overcoming the challenges faced by municipalities and the region,” said Oksana Siliukova.
