What is this?
This is an opportunity to work out approaches and learn about the possibilities and features of using geographic information systems for municipal management.
As part of the Training Program, participants will
- get acquainted with the concept of geographic information systems (GIS) and the possibilities of their application for making management decisions
- learn about the sources of geospatial data about the municipality, their formats, and available tools for publishing geodata online
- understand the legislative and regulatory requirements for the production of geospatial data sets for urban planning documentation and the unified state register of addresses
- develop skills in using QGIS GIS to maintain a municipality geodatabase and conduct verification
- take the first steps and start working with QGIS GIS
- establish cooperation with colleagues from other municipalities of Ukraine
When?
8 weeks, starting from August 29, 2024. All events will be held online and are free for participants.
Who can participate?
To participate in the Training Program “Steps for Specialists. Geographic Information Systems for the Development of Municipalities” will be selected 24 teams (2 people in each team, 48 people in total) of municipalities with a population of up to 50 thousand people, who are not located in the temporarily occupied territory, have the technical capabilities (microphone, camera, large monitor for practical work) to join online events and work efficiently using software used in geographic information systems.
The teams may include local government officials responsible for land management, urban planning, and architecture.

To participate in the selection process, please fill out the attached application and send it to the e-mail address: regops.u-lead@giz.de by 18:00 on 09.08.2024, indicating “GIS_Name of municipality_Oblast” in the subject line of the message in MS Excel format.
