These Digital Learning Centres were created in partnership between Charity Foundation SavED and U-LEAD with Europe as part of the U-LEAD initiative "Local Schools Rehabilitation for Resilience" with the financial support of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission. The initiative envisages the creation of 25 DLCs in the Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Chernihiv regions to improve access to digital education for more than 23,700 children. These will be safe spaces in schools where teachers will be able to conduct lessons if they can not do so at home. The premises will be equipped with computer devices and have a stable Internet connection.
The DLCs in the Kharkiv region already have the first impressive results:
-
During the first week, Beehive in Derhachi was visited by about 70 children of various ages. The youngest (three-four-year-old kids) come to development classes, five- to six-year-old children prepare for school and do fine arts. Schoolchildren from entire municipality come to “Vulyk” to have their classes and participate in the theater group.
-
About 100 children came to the Beehive in Merefa during the first week of its work. For them, classes have begun to catch up on all subjects, and students of grades 10-11 are already preparing for the national multi-subject test. For children from three to 17 years of age, there are dance and fine arts clubs.
-
The Beehive in Pisochyn has already accepted more than 30 children. Here, lessons are held for children of all ages, and after the classes schoolchildren do homework together with teachers. Also, the after-school activities are on, and last week the team of the State Emergency Service came to “Vulyk” and conducted mine safety classes for schoolchildren.
-
The Beehive in Bezruky opened two days ago, and now there are classes on plasticine and bead weaving attended by 30 children.
“Vulyk” digital learning centres are not only about lessons and extracurricular activities. They're giving kids a chance to see their friends and teachers again after nearly two years of online education due to the outbreak of the full-scale war. In this safe environment, they can freely communicate, share news, and most importantly, just be kids!
